In today’s society, there is a high incidence of multiple births for those that do in vitro fertilization. Many women choose to have children later on in life. Many couples choose to do in vitro fertilization to have a family. Regardless of the reason, we are seeing a higher rate of twins and triplets than ever before. We strive to provide educational material to new parents of multiples. The 3 most common congenital challenges we see in multiples are as follows: head and face asymmetries, congenital muscular torticollis, and gross motor developmental delays.

The good news is that these challenges are completely resolvable. The better news is that the earlier they are addressed, the sooner they are resolved. We find that many multiples with these challenges are not addressed by an expert until 5 months or older. The earlier the intervention, as early as 1 to 3 months of age, the easier and quicker the resolution. At Back In Motion, we strive to make special accommodations for families of multiples.

We Offer:

Early Intervention Screens for Multiples – Multiples are at high risk for having neck muscle tightness and limited neck range of motion because of limited growing space in utero. Limitations are typically not obvious until 3 to 5 months of age. What becomes obvious is a gradual flattening of the back of the head. To avoid this, it is advisable to have your multiples screened for any head & neck limitations. Families leave with a greater sense of awareness and are equipped with a safe and effective home program to prevent head flattening and improve neck range of motion.

*An early intervention screen for multiples by a head and neck Occupational Therapy specialist is quickly becoming a preventative protocol for many local Pediatricians that specialize in multiples. Request this service from your Pediatrician today.

Additional Special Discounts for Multiples – If you schedule your multiples appointment times back to back, whether it’s for an early intervention screen or for Occupational Therapy services, we offer an additional discount off of our already reduced fee schedule. Please refer to our fee schedule for details and call to request the extra Multiples discount rate.

Home-based Physical/Occupational Therapy Evaluations & Treatments – We acknowledge the challenges associated with getting more than one child to an appointment. There’s the uncertainty of driving just weeks after delivering your child, there are the stresses of traffic, parking and getting to the appointment on time. We are also aware of your new baby’s developing immune system, and how there is less risk for exposing them to illnesses by staying in. To make things easier, we offer the option of having a Licensed Occupational Therapist come to your home. For more information about this service, refer to the section on home visits below and call today.

Local Private Home Visits

child6When working with families with children, it is understandable that it can be difficult attending regular therapy sessions. Some new moms are not comfortable or able to drive to a clinic with their new baby. Some families have been advised to not bring their new baby to a clinic until their immune system is stronger. Some families have more than one child, making it difficult to schedule appointments around a babysitter, or dealing with the potential stress of having to bring all children with you to an office visit.

Whatever the challenge may be, we are here to help make it easier for your child to receive the Occupational Therapy they need. Most congenital challenges that warrant Pediatric Occupational Therapy are best resolved within the first 12 months of life. We strive to make sure families do not miss this window of opportunity for maximum resolution of any challenges by offering the option of receiving Occupational Therapy in the comfort and safety of their own home.
