Have you ever asked yourself, “Will diet soda make you fat?” People switch to diet soda thinking it’s going to help with losing weight. It probably will in the beginning. The issue is, when you cut sugar from your daily diet, the body looks for glucose elsewhere. For instance, we want the body to burn fat. So firstly, when you drink a diet soda, the body reacts negatively. Secondly, once the body realizes that there is no sugar, and it’s just an artificial sweetener, the body starts craving carbs.

Meanwhile, you are trying to lose weight, the artificial sweeteners in diet sodas can cause side effects that will hinder weight loss. So, If you are having a hard time losing weight, this should be the first thing you cut out of your diet. In other words, Aspartame can impair the body from absorbing specific vitamins, antioxidants, and the mineral magnesium. Our body needs these nutrients to have successful weight loss.

What alternatives can you drink?

  • Water is the best as it flushes out all the bad stuff in our bodies and known for successful weight loss.
  • Diet sodas sweetened with stevia
  • Soft drinks with sucralose
  • Water bottle infuser
  • Water flavor enhancers
  • lemons and limes
  • Phosphate-free carbonated flavored water

If you are looking to lose fat, the best method is to cut out diet sodas. The one drink that contains no sugar is the best thirst quencher. Water is crisp, refreshing, and oxygen-packed. Water does not have to be boring; there are many ways to flavor your water. The best I found was using a water bottle infuser where you can add all your favorite citrus fruits.
