Elbow Pain.

Are you experiencing pain in your elbow?  It could be golfers elbow or it could be tennis elbow.  You do not have to be a golfer or a tennis player to get these painful elbow conditions.

Epicondylitis

Lateral Epicondylitis more commonly known, tennis elbow – is an inflammation of the tendons on the bony outer part of the elbow (known as the Lateral Epicondyle). These tendons are responsible for many elbow, wrist and finger movements.

Symptoms:
Lateral Epicondylitis is characterized by pain, tenderness and swelling in the outer part of the elbow and forearm; particularly on moving the elbow, wrist and fingers in an extended movement or motion.

Causes:
The tendons can be injured by repeated actions such as Racket Sports, using scissors or shears, typing, manual occupations that involve repetitive use of the elbow and wrist such as decorating or plumbing and direct trauma to the elbow or forearm.   Since these are somewhat common activities, it is always important to address the destructive forces.  So this may be as simple as changing the grip on your tennis racket.

golfers elbow
medial epicondylitis

Medial Epicondylitis more commonly known, golfers elbow – is an inflammation of the tendons on the bony or inner part of the elbow.  You should not delay getting treatment for this condition after applying ice and modifying your activity.  In some cases, surgery for golfers elbow is considered.

Symptoms:
Medial Epicondylitis is characterized by pain, tenderness and swelling in the inner part of the elbow and forearm; particularly on moving the elbow, wrist and fingers in a bent or ‘flexion’ motion.

Causes:
The tendons can be injured by repeated actions such as Golfing, painting, keyboarding, typing, weight lifting manual occupations that involve repetitive use of the elbow and wrist such as gripping, handling and direct trauma to the inner elbow or forearm.  Because of these common causes, it is important to address the root problem.
